Draft Recap: NFC North
Another division that fell from grace in a hurry. If the Pack misses Brett Favre as much as John Madden will, a terrible team is going to the playoffs from this group.
Chicago Bears: Matt Forte, RB, 2nd round. This is where everyone thought the Bears would nab a quarterback. What everyone seems to ignore is that the Bears didn’t have a decent running back either, and that is an infinitely more important part of a team that plays a few yards away from the coldest body of water this side of whatever Hillary Clinton bathes in. Time will tell if anyone will try to make a Will Forte joke and if anyone will get it.
Detroit Lions: Caleb Campbell, S, 7th round. Whatever, I’m a sucker for a good story. Campbell gets out of a tour in Iraq if he makes a team helmed by a Vietnam vet (Rod Marinelli). Watching him play, it looks like he may be able to seriously contribute as well. The Lions needed some good press in a draft for a change. Plus, the rest of their picks were terrible.
Green Bay Packers: Brian Brohm, QB, 2nd round. Ideal situation. He’s in a place where he’s sitting behind an unproven first round pick who has all the pressure of succeeding Favre. The defense, line, and running game are in place, so all Brohm has to do is watch Aaron Rodgers Tedford himself through five or six games, then take over and be their Tom Brady. The only downside to being the Brady of Green Bay is that Gisele Bundchen, and every other supermodel on Earth, has no idea where Green Bay is.
Minnesota Vikings: John David Booty, QB, 2nd round. The quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings doesn’t have to do much. He has to hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson and make short, accurate throws behind a line that will give him an hour and a half to throw the ball. Tavaris Jackson might be the only man who can’t do that, which means Booty gets to start sooner rather than later. All of his faults (not a big arm, not terribly mobile) are irrelevant in Minnesota. It’s also nice to have a man with a serial killer name running the Vikings. Very Fargo.
